التوتر السياسي يصل إلى الملاعب
ألقى التصعيد بين واشنطن وطهران بظلاله على قطاع الرياضة، مع تصاعد الجدل حول مشاركة منتخب إيران في نهائيات كأس العالم 2026، بعد طرح مقترح أميركي باستبعاده واستبداله بإيطاليا.
واشنطن: لا اعتراض على اللاعبين
أكد وزير الخارجية الأميركي ماركو روبيو أن الولايات المتحدة لا تعارض مشاركة اللاعبين الإيرانيين، لكنها ترفض دخول أشخاص على صلة بالحرس الثوري ضمن الوفد. وأوضح أن المشكلة ليست مع الرياضيين، بل مع بعض المرافقين الذين قد يُقدَّمون كصحفيين أو مدربين.
من جهته، شدد الرئيس دونالد ترامب على أن إدارته “لا تريد التأثير على الرياضيين”، رغم أنه كان قد نصح سابقًا بعدم مشاركة اللاعبين الإيرانيين “حرصًا على سلامتهم”، قبل أن يؤكد لاحقًا أن المنتخب مرحب به.
مقترح استبدال إيران بإيطاليا
الجدل تصاعد بعد اقتراح قدمه المبعوث الأميركي باولو زامبولي باستبعاد إيران ومنح مكانها لإيطاليا، مستندًا إلى تاريخ الأخيرة الكروي، إلا أن المقترح قوبل برفض واسع.
رفض إيطالي رسمي
في إيطاليا، أثار الطرح ردود فعل غاضبة، إذ أكد وزير الرياضة أندريا أبودي أن التأهل يُحسم في الملعب، بينما وصف وزير الاقتصاد جيانكارلو جيورجيتي الفكرة بأنها “مخزية”. كما اعتبر رئيس اللجنة الأولمبية الإيطالية أن المشاركة يجب أن تكون مستحقة، لا بقرار سياسي.
إيران تتمسك بالمشاركة
في المقابل، أكدت طهران تمسكها بالمشاركة في البطولة، حيث أعلنت المتحدثة باسم الحكومة فاطمة مهاجراني أن المنتخب يستعد لـ”مشاركة فخورة وناجحة”. كما شدد رئيس الاتحاد الإيراني مهدي تاج على أن المنتخب سيشارك وفق المعطيات الحالية.
خلاف على مكان المباريات
وكانت إيران قد طلبت نقل مبارياتها في دور المجموعات من الولايات المتحدة إلى المكسيك بسبب الحرب، إلا أن “فيفا” رفض الطلب، ما يزيد من تعقيد الملف.
الاستعدادات مستمرة رغم التوتر
ورغم التصعيد السياسي، يواصل المنتخب الإيراني تحضيراته، حيث خطط لخوض أربع مباريات ودية في تركيا استعدادًا للمونديال، في مؤشر على أن المشاركة لا تزال قائمة حتى الآن.

The escalation between Washington and Tehran has cast its shadow over the sports sector, with growing controversy over Iran’s participation in the 2026 World Cup finals, following a US proposal to exclude it and replace it with Italy.
Washington: no objection to players
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the United States does not oppose the participation of Iranian players, but refuses the entry of individuals linked to the Revolutionary Guard within the delegation. He explained that the issue is not with the athletes, but with some accompanying individuals who may be presented as journalists or coaches.
For his part, President Donald Trump stressed that his administration does not want to affect athletes, although he had previously advised against Iranian players participating for their safety, before later confirming that the team is welcome.
Proposal to replace Iran with Italy
The controversy escalated after a proposal by US envoy Paolo Zampolli to exclude Iran and grant its place to Italy, citing the latter’s football history, but the proposal was met with widespread rejection.
Official Italian rejection
In Italy, the proposal sparked angry reactions, as Sports Minister Andrea Abodi confirmed that qualification is decided on the field, while Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti described the idea as shameful. The head of the Italian Olympic Committee also stated that participation should be earned, not decided politically.
Iran insists on participation
On the other hand, Tehran affirmed its insistence on participating in the tournament, with government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani announcing that the team is preparing for a proud and successful participation. The president of the Iranian federation, Mehdi Taj, also stressed that the team will participate under current conditions.
Dispute over match venues
Iran had requested to move its group stage matches from the United States to Mexico due to the war, but FIFA rejected the request, further complicating the situation.
Preparations continue despite tension
Despite the political escalation, the Iranian team continues its preparations, planning to play four friendly matches in Turkey ahead of the World Cup, indicating that participation remains in place for now.
