أفادت تقارير إعلامية أميركية بأن الرئيس دونالد ترامب عبّر لمقربين منه عن رغبته في تجنب الانخراط في حرب طويلة الأمد مع إيران، في ظل مخاوف من ارتفاع الخسائر البشرية في صفوف القوات الأميركية.
ونقلت صحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال» عن مسؤولين أميركيين قولهم إن ترامب أبدى قلقه من تزايد عدد القتلى والجرحى إذا استمر النزاع، معتبراً أن الصراع دخل مراحله الأخيرة. كما شدد أمام مستشاريه على ضرورة الالتزام بالجدول الزمني المحدد للتعامل مع الملف الإيراني، والذي يمتد بين أربعة وستة أسابيع.
وفي سياق متصل، كشفت المصادر أن الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل قررتا تعليق استهداف مسؤولين إيرانيين، هما علي عراقجي ومحمد قاليباف، بشكل مؤقت. في المقابل، أكد عراقجي أن طهران لا تجري مفاوضات مباشرة مع واشنطن، مشيراً إلى أن التواصل يتم عبر وسطاء.
وخلال عشاء جمعه بأعضاء في الكونغرس من الحزب الجمهوري، قال ترامب إن إيران تسعى إلى التوصل لاتفاق مع الولايات المتحدة لكنها تتجنب الإعلان عن ذلك، مضيفاً أن المفاوضين الإيرانيين يخشون التعرض للقتل من قبل شعبهم إذا كشفوا عن هذه المحادثات.
وأشار ترامب إلى أن القيادة في إيران تواجه ظروفاً صعبة، قائلاً إن لا أحد يرغب في تولي المسؤولية في ظل الوضع الراهن. كما جدّد تأكيده أن الولايات المتحدة «دمرت كل شيء في إيران»، بما في ذلك القدرات العسكرية والبحرية والبرنامج النووي.
وأضاف أن التدخل العسكري كان ضرورياً، معتبراً أنه لم يكن هناك خيار آخر «لاستئصال السرطان النووي الإيراني»، لافتاً إلى أن الولايات المتحدة حققت تقدماً في هذا الصراع. كما رأى أن تداعيات الحرب على أسعار النفط والأسواق المالية كانت أقل حدة مما كان متوقعاً.
وتأتي هذه التصريحات بعد إعلان وزير الخارجية الإيراني عباس عراقجي عدم وجود نية لدى بلاده للدخول في مفاوضات مع الولايات المتحدة.
وفي انتقاد لاذع لخصومه السياسيين، اتهم ترامب الديمقراطيين بمحاولة صرف الأنظار عن ما وصفه بـ«النجاح الكبير» للعملية العسكرية، ساخراً من مطالبهم بالحصول على موافقة الكونغرس، ومشيراً إلى أنه يفضل وصف ما يجري بـ«عملية عسكرية» بدلاً من «حرب»
U.S. media reports said that President Donald Trump expressed to close associates his desire to avoid getting involved in a prolonged war with Iran, amid concerns over rising casualties among U.S. forces.
The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. officials, reported that Trump voiced concern about increasing numbers of dead and wounded if the conflict continues, considering that the war has entered its final stages. He also stressed to his advisers the need to adhere to the set timeline for handling the Iranian file, which ranges between four to six weeks.
In a related context, sources revealed that the United States and Israel have decided to temporarily suspend targeting two Iranian officials, Ali Araghchi and Mohammad Qalibaf. Meanwhile, Araghchi confirmed that Tehran is not engaged in direct negotiations with Washington, noting that communication is taking place through intermediaries.
During a dinner with Republican members of Congress, Trump said that Iran is seeking to reach an agreement with the United States but is avoiding announcing it publicly, adding that Iranian negotiators fear being killed by their own people if such talks are revealed.
Trump also indicated that Iran’s leadership is facing difficult conditions, saying that no one wants to assume responsibility under the current situation. He reiterated that the United States has “destroyed everything in Iran,” including military and naval capabilities as well as the nuclear program.
He added that military intervention was necessary, arguing there was no other option to “eradicate the Iranian nuclear cancer,” noting that the United States has made progress in this conflict. He also said the war’s impact on oil prices and financial markets was less severe than expected.
These remarks come after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that his country has no intention of entering negotiations with the United States.
In sharp criticism of his political opponents, Trump accused Democrats of trying to divert attention from what he described as the “great success” of the military operation, mocking their demands for congressional approval and stating that he prefers to describe what is happening as a “military operation” rather than a “war.”
